Something I thought about while reading that locked thread ("my fears"), that i wanted to post there, but, obviously, couldn't cuz its locked.
Lord of the Rings was published on October 21, 1954. The animated movie adaptation was released on November 27, 1977. (well, the Hobbit. LOTR was released on November 15, 1978.) The Fellowship of the Ring live-action movie was released in December of 2001.
a 23 year wait from book to animated movie, then another 24 years until live-action movie.
So, now Dragonlance...
Dragons of Autumn Twilight was published in April 1984. The animated movie will be released in 2007.
a 23 year wait.
(freaky, isn't it? check the dates if you don't believe me)
Golden eyes, I know you hate when people compare DL to LOTR, but this is a comparison that HAD to be made.
It means the live action movie will be released in 2031.
if it's not fun, what's the point? |

Yes, I know. There will always be comparisons. I’ve made a few of them myself but that doesn’t mean that I agree with it.
I also wanted to post in the thread (but couldn’t, obviously)….Tonka, if you want to list inconsistencies and points on why the series is thin and shallow, open a thread. I personally hate how there are so many books by so many authors. I know that it gives the series variety but it is rather confusing and gives room for contradictions...among other things.
In any case, I can't wait 'til 2031

i'm trying really hard to think of a serious adventure animated movie that i love and could compare a DL animated movie to, but i can't think of one. "the hobbit" is ok, but i want DL to be tons better than that. are there any really great animated adventure movies not aimed at preteens?

Yes there is hope to see a live action! As long as we don't die from global warming, the ozone layer, aliens coming to earth, or a nuclear halucast!

Sure Golden eye I'll get on to a new thread as soon possible.
speaking about the DL books. I have only read DL chronicles and legend. after that Weis and Hickman moved onto another publishing company and wrote other fantasy stories and read them.
But having a look around the web I was amazed at how many DL novels have been writen. Unbelievable! No wonder movie studios are interested in Dragonlance. If done correctly DL could become a movie franchise to spawn several dozen movies, TB series, toys computer games and make a ton of cash. Everything is starting to come very clear.
So i doubt the studios will mistreat a DL movie like they did with D&D movie because to much money is at stake.
