| Has anyone noticed that, especially in the War of Souls, Dalamar is considered as powerful if not more so than Raistlin? I grated on me a little when reading and I wondered if it was just me being jealous on behalf of Raistlin? Also doesn't Raistlin seem really tame in the later books, the character seems to change almost beyond recognition. I know he's been through a lot but, come on! |

Well, being a Dalamar fan, I can't really sympathize with your jealousy on Raistlin's part, but I think that Raistlin's power came more from his greed and willingness to go to all lengths using it. Dalamar will be weaker than Raistlin always if only because he's too restrained to go the whole nine yards with using his power. Raistlin's innovation is more important than his power anyway. As for his character change, it annoyed me too, but that doesn't stop it from being a perfectly logical progression. After all, if he had changed less, it would have seemed like his character was stagnant.

I don't know that Dalamar is near as powerful as Raistlin. He is by far the most powerful Black Robe alive at the time of the War of Souls, but I think his power is still a decent amount less then Raistlin. As for the personality change... I think with the sacrifice that Raistlin makes in Legends he learns something more about himself. He is a new person following these events. He is still the sly one, but with a new look on things.

there's no way Dalamar is more powerful than Raistlin.Dalamar says him self he both hates and loves raistlin at the same time. i couldn't see Dalamar being powerful enough to fight a goddess like Raistlin did "up thi sky blues" elvish lad |

I think it was necessary for Raistlin to change in order to parallel the transformation that occurred with Caramon. Being "two parts of a whole person" for most of their lives, both of them had to change in some way or another after they finally separated.
