While skeptical at first when I found this site, I am quite impressed by the
amount of material and creative work going into making this film(s) possible.
After< seeing Reign of Fire, I was convinced that CG could make decent dragons.
The design was just a new improved version of Vermithrax (of Dragonslayer fame).
Combine this type of design with the addition of agile rear legs and add a rain
and variations for species (red, blue, etc.) and the dragon part is great. I'm
very happy to see that everyone ids focused on plot, dialogue, etc. This is
the part that most often fails to make the movie a good one. Most film makers
seem to focus on special effects and who can do the most with the biggest computer.
When its the plot that counts the most. Its not an adult feature where a plot
is meaningless, but a feature that is supposed to transport the audience to
a different reality. They shouldn't even be able to imagine it as our earth
a thousand years ago, but as Krynn, a world unique unto its own. As far as LOTR
goes, use it as a good ruler to hold it up against. Many fantasy fanatics have
the same view of the film series so use these to see where DL could improve
upon. I would suggest that its is perfectly fine to shorten bits here and there
as found in the book, or admit minor parts completely, but don't add things
or create things that never occurred in the book. An example that seems to be
quoted often is the Liv Tyler showing her face too much in LOTR and
getting to do things her character never did. Thats what those 'in the know'
don't like.
Keep up the good work. What I once fortook as a someone just making a web page up for themselves because they just learned how to make one, is now a site I check often with enthusiasm.

Thanks Alan, we're quite proud of the work as well! I too had a 'slight' change of heart after seeing a) the dragons in ROF and b) Golem in TTT. CG done right seems to be improving. There's two things that make LOTR what it is (3 if you include lots of money!) The depth of detail in the Middle Earth setting and the love of the production team for the material. DL definately has the detail we can provide the love. All we need is the money!
If you want unknowns I have been acting for eight years, I an 17, I am told I am Kitiara's clone and I would love to play her (if we ever get to do winter night.) And I read the series.
Just a sugestion, but if you're interested, let me know.

Thanks for the offer Ya'el. I've actually got a few requests for this kind of thing so I may start to add an auditions section to the site/group. Send in a picture or even better, some video footage of a DL scene and I'll add the section!
Hello there,
I am very interested in your movie project, however,
i would like to know if you have acquired the rights to the movie from the authors.
Danny R. Goldman.

Why the special interest in the rights??
Good Morning,
Once having read the dragonlance series, I too often thought of just how superb it would be to have it made to film, my dreams similiar to your dreams. For me, seeing the beauty and awe inspiring story such as the Dragonlance saga, to be developed on the big screen would be the most amazing thing. I even went as far as mailing Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman offering that should they ever go through with it, that do to my accent and looks, I would fit well in a movie from another world.
Hoever, now years on, and after searching high and low, I have opened my eyes so to speak. The thing this, in order for the common man to understand and follow, making the movie enjoyable to them, they need certain info. Following the book word for word, scene for scene just will not achieve this. It will confuse them, and make them hate the movie. Take the Dungeons and Dragons movie, had they done it right, they could have had a hit, but by trying to implement everything in, elves and dwarves plus dragons and magic, they just landed up with a load of info that they had to try to force in. Hence the sudden power of the elves to bring back the dead, and the fact that the fearless and brash dwarf was that way for a reason, was lost on the common man. By forcing the info in, they left to many gaping holes, which is why it was labelled as such utter crap. This coupled with the pathetic script and even worse special effects, made the movie a disaster. How I pray that this does not happen with a book as beautiful as this.
If I may make a suggestion, and I know that it is not one that will be followed well, but I believe would bring out the real story. Make the dragonlace story the way they did the Final Fantasy Movie. CGI Based. Even the characters, make them CGI and not human. By doing so, you can fit in any effects or character traits that are necessary. Also, a key consideration is how to fit in the related info that is required for the common man, making it understandable for them, and true for the hardcore fanatics like myself. I do believe that certain areas and certain sequences will have to be changed / embelished for this, but if need be, must be done.
* Looks Up *
Man, what a lot of writing....
Sorry about that.
Cheers...and good luck. If you need me, you know where to find me.

I think from a story point of view, you're right on target with way us DLP'ers are think, but as far as a CG movie. Personally I think they should be left to kid's films for the moment.
On a final note I've had lots of e-mails from Ben Lilly. Too many to post, but I'd just like to thank him for the input and I've told him to post his comments on the group for all to comment on.
Cheers Ben.
